Baruch College CTL Presents: Open-Source Digital Tools for Teaching Fall 2022 Seminar

On behalf of the Baruch Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL): The Open-Source Digital Tools for Teaching seminar, hosted by the Baruch Center for Teaching and Learning, offers faculty an opportunity to discover and develop skills with technologies that will build engagement among students and faculty in and out of the classroom space. We’ll discuss the affordances of openly-licensed and accessible digital platforms that diversify opportunities to learn. Faculty and staff who are open to learning new digital tools are welcome to participate in the seminar and are eligible to earn a certificate of completion. * Session 1: Introduction * Wednesday, Oct. 12, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Online) * Session 2: Tools for Faculty-Created Materials * Wednesday, Oct. 26, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Online) * Session 3: Tools for Student-Created Materials * Wednesday, Nov. 2, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Online) * + plus one additional lab hour with a facilitator-partner All CUNY Faculty/Staff are welcome. Participants who fulfill these attendance requirements and who create an artifact demonstrating a working proficiency in the use of one or more open-source tools will receive a certificate of completion for the seminar. Dear Colleagues, The CUNY Innovative Teaching Academy is kicking off the virtual teaching workshop series for the 2022-2023 academic year. Teaching Matters is a monthly, free, one-hour summit of CUNY faculty and staff devoted to sharing innovative teaching strategies and student-centered learning methods. Each gathering includes a focused and engaged peer-to-peer workshop and a few practical teaching tips that can be used in any classroom. Along with our findings from the discussion series and future directions of PoK, we will be joined with our fellow colleges from around CUNY, showcasing their innovative work aimed at faculty excellence and student success. Assistance with Fulbright

Dear All, I hope everyone has had enjoyable summers and that the new semester is starting well. I am working with several students on Fulbright applications, and as part of the applications, we need to submit committee evaluations. We have a very interesting group of students this year applying to Germany, Belgium and Singapore. Some propose graduate study, and others are doing independent research or applying to be assistant English teachers. If you have expertise in these countries or in the teaching of English to speakers of other languages, I would appreciate your help evaluating our applications. This would involve reading one or two applications which include biographical details, three recommendations, transcripts and to essays of 1-2 pages. There would then be a meeting for about an hour to discuss the application, give the student feedback, and discuss how we want to present the application to Fulbright. I would be able to send you materials by September 15th at the latest, and we would need to hold the individual review meetings by the end of September to allow students time to make revisions the committee suggested by Fulbright's final deadline. If you can assist, I'd be very grateful and am of course happy to answer any questions you might have. Best, Moira ~ Moira E. A New Era for the Center for Teaching and Learning

Dear Colleagues, We are excited to announce that our name is changing from the Center of Teaching and Learning (CTL) to the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Leadership (CETLL). This change results from initiatives taken by Associate Provost, Alicia Alvero, CETTL Director, Kathleen (Kathie) Mangiapanello and the CETLL team. Moving forward, the CETLL aims to function as comprehensive, faculty-driven, professional development center, focusing not only on pedagogical needs, but also supporting career growth and development, as well as assisting those interested in identifying leadership opportunities across our campus. To this end, the CETLL has partnered with a number of faculty across our college in an effort to assess and better understand the needs of our diverse instructors, both full-time and adjunct. In doing so, we strive to build a community of collaboration, support and caring among our instructors so that they in turn, can use the skills gained to foster a more inclusive learning environment that promotes positive student outcomes across our diverse student community.
