Self-paced Best Practices for Teaching Online Workshop, Jan. 10 - Feb. 18, 2022

The Center for Teaching and Learning at Queens College is offering a five-session asynchronous Best Practices for Teaching Online workshop from January 10 – February 18, 2022. All faculty who are scheduled to teach online/hybrid in the Winter, Spring and Summer semester(s) of 2022 are welcome to apply. As participants in this workshop, faculty will be able to: offer a student-centered learning experience in an online learning environment, support students in achieving essential learning objectives creatively and flexibly, re-imagine face-to-face pedagogies and projects in an online environment, demonstrate competency in choosing and using digital tools for teaching remotely, design effective online learning activities that engage students in the learning process, and support the achievement of intended student learning outcomes. Faculty will take the workshop in Blackboard. We are offering two certifications: • Faculty who successfully complete the Full Teaching Online training will receive a Certificate of Completion and compensation of $500 for their participation. • Faculty who successfully complete the Emergency Teaching Online training will receive a Certificate of Completion and compensation of $150 for their participation. Blum, Professor of Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame and editor of the collection “Ungrading: Why Rating Students Undermines Learning (and What to Do Instead)” (West Virginia University Press, 2020) What is “ungrading” and why is it having such an impact right now? Dr. Susan D. Blum, professor of anthropology at the University of Notre Dame, is one of the nation’s leading experts and practitioners of the combination of evaluative practices loosely known as “ungrading.” In this interactive workshop, Dr. Blum will discuss the reasons why it is important to think about our grading practices—where they come from, how they do or do not promote or inhibit learning, and what better ways and models are available. The Office of the Provost at Queens College is pleased to announce the **2021-2022 Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Faculty Fellowships.** In keeping with the international goals of Queens College (QC) and working closely with the Center for Teaching and Learning, the workshops will provide faculty support in the development of COIL into their courses. The aim of the COIL Faculty Fellowships is to offer select faculty the opportunity to learn about Collaborative Online International Learning, develop strategies for incorporating it into their courses, advance research with international colleagues, and expand QC’s global presence. Adding a COIL component to your course offers your students an opportunity to interact globally through virtual exchange without additional costs associated with physical mobility.
