Dear Accounting Undergraduate Majors: The fall semester is rapidly approaching. My records indicate that several of you have still not registered for classes. Please do not delay. We are offering a full complement of both on line and in person classes. Please do not request over tallies. Register for open sections as soon as possible. If you have any questions about registration, please reach out to your Accounting Advisor directly. For those of you who are graduating this fall semester and intend to continue in one of our graduate programs, this is your last opportunity to register for a graduate class as an undergraduate. Follow the instructions in my prior email and contact me directly if you are interested. If you need personal advisement or just want to stop in to say good-bye, I will be in my office in PH 215 one last time on Tuesday, August 23 from 1-4 PM. It would be great to see you in person. As of the Fall semester Professor Amy David will be the new Deputy Chair for Advisement. In addition, Professor Fang Sun will be the new 2nd Degree and Option 1 Advisor. Professor Sun will also be the new Director of the MS in Accounting program, and Professor Terry Balkaran will be the Director of the new Masters in Taxation program. I know you will enjoy working with all of them. It has been an honor and a privilege being the Deputy Chair of Advisement for the Department of Accounting and Information Systems, especially during these difficult times. Dear Perspective Summer Graduates: Just a reminder that the deadline to apply for Summer graduation is rapidly approaching. The deadline is July 1, and it will not be extended. File for graduation directly on CUNYFirst. For those of you with a cumulative GPA of 3.0+, you will be receiving a Fast Track invitation to join one of our graduate programs. The invitation will be sent by email sometime in July and will generally be sent to your QC email account. Look for it. You can accept the invitation to join our standard MS in Accounting, or our new MS in Taxation. You also have the option of deferring acceptance into either program for one semester, meaning you would start in the Spring of 2023. Good luck to all of you. As I head into retirement I leave our graduate programs in good hands. Professor Sun will be the new Director of the MS in Accounting. Professor Balkaran will be the Director of our MS in Taxation. If you have any issues regarding graduation contact me of Professor David who will be taking over for me as the Deputy Chair for Advisement. [AccountingUndergraduateStudents 0540] Volunteers Needed for Accounting Study Research

Dear Students, Professor Elizabeth Quaye is looking to interview 20 to 25 volunteers for her research. The volunteers need to be accounting majors and have completed at least one year of accounting studies. Both graduate and undergraduate students are welcome. Her qualitative research project focuses on the role that psychological distance, appeal, effective teaching, and student learning styles techniques played in motivating accounting students to pursue an accounting degree. The research has received IRB exemption and there will be no risks to students. Participating students will sign a consent form to confirm that they are participating in the research voluntarily. The interview will take about an hour to complete, and it will be strictly confidential and anonymous. As a thank you for participating in the research, students who are interviewed will be given $20 and the overall results will be shared with them if they so desire. Student participation in this research will help to enhance the almost non-existent research on psychological distance and accounting education. Their opinions, knowledge and insights may (a) help institutions of higher education put systems in place to attract and retain talented students with the aptitude and potential to succeed in accounting; (b) contribute to developing student interest early on in their studies to pursue an accounting career; (c) The students will benefit from a rewarding career and at the same time, they will help the country and the world’s economy by helping to build sound financial systems.
