Students must have at least a 3.2 overall GPA and 3.5 in the major. Lower juniors and upper sophomores are eligible to apply. Students must submit an essay of no more than 750 words that explains their interest in their field of study and the courses that have been most meaningful and interesting. The essay should explain how receiving the scholarship would impact the applicant and should indicate future plans, including both career plans and any plans for graduate study. Applicants are also encouraged to write about some of their other interests beyond their major field of study. The application must also include a transcript, CV and faculty recommendation. Applicants should submit all materials to Cindy Zapata. Deadline is Wednesday, May 16, 2012

We are pleased to invite applications for a new $2500 scholarship, the Bessie Milson scholarship, to be given to a Social Science major or graduate student. The application deadline is April 23, 2012. The scholarship competition is open to upper sophomores, juniors, and first year graduate students in the Social Sciences with a 3.5 or higher GPA. Applicants should submit a 500-750 word essay addressing what the study of social sciences means to them as well as what receipt of the scholarship would mean for them and their education. Completed applications also require a letter of recommendation from a full-time faculty member in the Division. All materials must be received by the deadline. Dear Graduating Seniors: Many of you have contacted me inquiring as to whether you can take a graduate course while still being an undergraduate student. Usually I do not allow this, but this semester there is a unique opportunity for a few highly qualified students to take a course in the Accounting Masters program, specifically, Risk Management 706, which is now a required course in our program. The course is given on Thursday evenings, starting this Thursday. In order to be eligible, here are the requirements: 1. You must be graduating this semester as an Accounting major, or a second degree student completing your undergraduate core courses this semester. 2. Your overall GPA must be 3.3 or better. 3. You must intend on applying to the masters program for entry in the fall or summer of 2012. 4. You must not need these three credits to fulfill any undergraduate major requirements and/or reach the required 120 credits needed for graduation. If you qualify, e mail me immediately, or come to my office (PH 215) tomorrow (Tuesday) after 1 PM. If I decide to allow you to take the course, and you complete it successfully, the course will need to be transferred to your graduate record once you are in the masters program.
