These can help you save your students money and I don’t want to make it seem like Lumen is the only choice for open educational resources – there are a lot out there, and I’m honestly a little skeptical of companies like Lumen that monetize them. These 30-40 minute webinars will provide a show-and-tell overview of ready-to-teach OER course materials that replace expensive textbooks. Upcoming Project Reporting Workshop at METRO

Hello all, Please consider attending this cutting-edge workshop next Monday (8/14), led by our Queens Memory director, Natalie Milbrodt: Natalie Milbrodt here from Queens Library. I'm working with my co-facilitator, Marcus Haraldsson to spread the word about our upcoming workshop<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/reporting-systems-are-dead-long-live-reporting…> (Monday, August 14th 2-5pm) hosted by the Metropolitan NY Library Council, relevant for people who manage academic and community projects. It's about finding ways to make the reports we write to funders more engaging and reusable in our communications with different audiences including ourselves as practitioners. The workshop will have opportunities for information sharing, brainstorming and skill building. We'll also introduce Global Grand Central<https://webmail.queenslibrary.org/owa/redir.aspx?C=NOYj8W5hGizXIgM80POF5r_M…>, which is a (free) social platform for sharing methods and outcomes amongst community-engaged practitioners working across many disciplines and countries. Maker workshops in Queens!

Hello all -- hope everyone is enjoying the summer! Starting in mid-September, Queens Memory will co-sponsor an innovative maker workshop, "Memories of Migration: Making a Talking Family Story Quilt." In this free six-session series, intergenerational pairs of participants will work together on activities including storytelling, simple electronics and textile art making. <http://queensmemory.org/events> During the first three sessions, pairs will be instructed on how to record their family stories and program them onto Arduino LilyPads -- electronic devices that will then be wired into the fabric they choose for their pieces of the quilt. Teaching artist Karen Fitzgerald will lead participants through the next three sessions of quilt-making. The results will be combined into an interactive story quilt that will be displayed in a public exhibit at the Fresh Meadows Community Library. Participants will take home their pieces of the quilt following the exhibition. The sessions will be held on six Saturday afternoons -- Sept. 16 and 23, and Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28 -- from 2:30 to 4:30 pm at the Fresh Meadows Library. Registration is limited.
