Making Your Degree A Career! Queens College Event on Wednesday, May 2nd from 12:15-1:15

To Whom This May Concern: I am writing to you on behalf of the QC French and Francophone club to inform you of an event called Making Your Degree a Career. It will be held on Wednesday, May 2nd from 12:15-1:15 in Powdermaker Hall: Room 153. The purpose of the event is to bring together students to realize the importance of their degree and the doors that it could open for them. The main speaker is Nadia Shammas, a Brooklyn College graduate who will talk about how she raised money to fund her career, bringing together artists to form a graphic novel focused on health issues. Moreover, other speakers will discuss how their internships kickstarted their careers, and how they used their degree to form a career. Current QC students will talk about their internships with Tech Incubator., a group on campus that helps early stage student ventures build successful technology companies. Dear Colleagues, Please join the Art Center in welcoming Greek artist, Yorgos Giotsas, to Queens College, with an opening reception celebrating his solo exhibition, Yorgos Giotsas: Uncertain Alphabet. Uncertain Alphabet considers the potentially isolating effects of modern communication methods through Giotsas' new sculptural collages on paper, which represent a new direction within the artist's body of work. Free Oral History Training Workshop

Hello all, Queens Memory is holding one more free oral history training workshop this semester! This session will take place on Wednesday, May 2, from 12:10 to 2:00 pm at Queensborough Community College (Medical Arts Building, room M123). We will cover such topics as interviewing techniques, recording technology and the creation of timecode outlines, and will offer some time to practice your skills. The workshop will also feature a discussion of our Queens LGBTQ Oral History project. See flyer attached for more details. The Center for Teaching & Learning is offering an eight-week summer workshop on the development and implementation of online and hybrid courses (courses that blend online and face-to-face instruction). Hi all, I'm writing to let you know about an upcoming workshop hosted by Writing at Queens which focuses on *assessment. * *The event will take place on April 25th at 10:00 am in Queens Hall 330A. * Writing at Queens is hosting our final digital pedagogy workshop of the semester on April 25th at 10:00 am in QH 330A. The workshop will introduce participants to assessment techniques that employ technology. These may be as simple as using a course blog for grading, setting up online tests, using clickers for real time feedback in class, or even as complex as designing a project that requires students to create a technology-based object (like a website or podcast). Subject: Meeting on Wednesday, April 18th 10:00 am - 11:15 am in Frese Hall room 213 Dear Faculty: You are invited to learn more about two Career Success RFPs for 2018-2019 on Wednesday, April 18th 10:00 -11:15 am in Frese Hall room 213 at the Center for Career Engagement and Internships. Provost Hendrey and Assistant Provost Fernandez have asked me to lead this effort. We recently received this proposal from CUNY and we have less than a month to response. Are you interested in redesigning or creating a new course? The "CUNY Career Success Course Innovation RFP #2" will support the redesign and/or creation of credit and non-credit courses or programs by integrating new content including employer-informed high demand skills and abilities, general and sector-specific career readiness, and applied or experiential learning. This RFP will award up to 12 grants of $13,200 to faculty, academic departments, or adult and continuing education units in each six-month grant cycle, with an anticipated total of up to 24 grants each year. QC internal submission deadline is April 27th for RFP #2 which will be reviewed by the committee. Are you interested in creating an integrated academic and career map? The "Career Success Initiative RFP#1" is a career success initiative for 10 faculty curriculum developer to create integrated academic and career maps for the top 10 declared majors. Faculty will receive up to $6,000 during summer 2018 to work on this initiative. The total award is up to $110,000. QC internal deadline for RFP #1 is May 2nd. Premiere of "There is a Portal" by Kayhan Irani at Godwin Ternbach on April 23rd

Dear Colleagues, Just wanted to let you know that local playwright/actress Kayhan Irani will be premiering her one woman show "There is a Portal" in the Godwin Ternbach museum space in Klapper Hall next Monday April 23rd at 12:15 pm. This is the second in a series of pieces that she is writing/imagining that explore the domestic war on terror and how fear and hatred have eaten away at the fabric of American society. This play is deeply personal - Irani weaves together childhood recollections and personal stories of immigration with the political history of US intervention in the Middle East and the propaganda that accompanies war and violence abroad.
