[EnglishMA] MA updates + upcoming events
Dear Graduate Students, There's a lot going on in the world right now, and we hope you're all taking care as best you can. If there's anything we can do to help or support you, please don't hesitate to email us. Please read on for some announcements and updates. (We'll have more news for you in the coming weeks, especially about our annual spring grad conference and our annual grad essay prize contest, so please look out for those too.) SPRING 2022 GRADUATION FYI, the deadline to apply for Spring 2022 graduation <https://www.qc.cuny.edu/registrar/graduation/Pages/default.aspx> just passed on March 1. We sent reminders to students who we believe are finishing up their MA requirements, but if you are planning to graduate this semester and have not yet applied for graduation, you can try to do so via your CUNYfirst Student Center. If you're unable to do so, please email qchub@qc.cuny.edu to request a late graduation filing and CC caroline.hong@qc.cuny.edu. As of now, plans are in the works for in-person commencement/graduation ceremonies, and we'll share details later this semester as soon as we have them. TAKE ACTION AGAINST RACISM AT QC You have probably already heard about the racist and antisemitic attacks at Delany Hall earlier this year. Many QC faculty, students, staff, and community members are continuing to push the QC administration for recognition and resources. If you’d like to learn more and add your voice, you can start by reading and signing this petition: http://tiny.cc/Delany2022. You can also read about more ways to take action at http://tiny.cc/takeaction. UPCOMING QC/CUNY EVENTS This *Sunday, March 6, at 12pm*, there's a march across the Brooklyn Bridge to demand funding for CUNY (and the New Deal for CUNY <https://actionnetwork.org/letters/we-need-a-new-deal-for-cuny>) and SUNY and to show support for public higher education. You can RSVP at https://cunyrisingalliance.org/march6 (see attached flyer). On *Monday, March 7, at 12:15pm* via Zoom, there's a Women's History Month event on "Radical Care and Community-Based Approaches to Trauma and Healing" with City Council Member Tiffany Caban and LIFE Camp's Erica Ford. Register for the Zoom at https://t.co/xKnc8G6MvM. On *Wednesday, March 9, at 7pm* via Zoom, the MFA program is hosting a talk on craft with acclaimed writer Matthew Salesses. (Super excited for this one!) Register for the Zoom at https://tinyurl.com/Matthew-Salesses (see attached flyer). Also save the date for the next MFA event on March 24, which is a talk on careers in publishing. Also on *Wednesday, March 9, at 6:30pm* on campus in the Summit, there's an event with TV showrunner and producer Jason Katims, who is a QC alum (see attached flyer). PUBLISHING OPPORTUNITY For those of you interested in trying to publish your scholarship, you might check out the literary studies journal *Texas Studies in Literature and Language <https://utpress.utexas.edu/journals/texas-studies-in-literature-and-language>*. Please see the attached flyer for more info. Please continue to be kind and gentle with yourselves and each other, and please email us both if you have any questions or need advising or support. More soon!
