I would like to take this opportunity in thanking you for your continued dedication to the field of librarianship and leadership role within the GSLIS Department. As both a student and now "adjunct" your leadership style as well as the constructive advice and criticism throughout the years is what has kept me here within CUNY. That I was tapped to teach the 701 course several years ago and scrutinzed under the watchful eyes of Claudia, Mary, yourself and the rest of the illustrious faculty and staff, is both humbling and a worthwhile experience. I can only hope that I can actually live up to the continuing expectations each of you embody.
Regarding Dr. Marcum, this choice could not have been a better one. He is not only a former CUNY chief Librarian, as you and the rest of the faculty are aware, he is well-versed in the challenges we face as academic librarians. He brings well-documented experience, insight and innovation to our department. Our challenges will be many, but with the kind of determination and will of each of us collectively, we will do more than survive; we will move beyond the lending/reference model to a broader view of what's possible in a community-based space focused on helping not only our students, but people as we have always done.

Hi guys,
During our annual new student orientation on Thursday August 25th, I had the pleasure of introducing our new department chair Dr. James Marcum. That was my last “official” duty as Acting Chair of the GSLILS. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Marcum to the School and to his new position.
