Aaron Elkins is a candidate for the faculty position of Assistant Professor - Youth Services. On Wednesday at 2pm he will give a talk about his research, entitled A taxonomy of school librarians’ duties in Florida: a qualitative content analysis of their job descriptions, performance evaluations, and *Empowering Learners. * Afterwards, from 3-5pm, he will be available to speak individually with faculty and students. From 6:10-7:10pm Mr. Elkins will conduct a classroom lecture on Children's Information Seeking Behaviors. Students in 739 and 773 will be expected to attend this classroom lecture, while others are also welcome. At 7:30 there will be a small group dinner with Mr. Elkins at a Flushing restaurant to be determined. On Thursday Aaron will go to lunch with faculty on campus at 12:30 and he will meet with Dean Scott at 3pm. He will be available to meet with students and faculty at other times on Thursday. His brief bio appears below: Aaron Elkins served as a school librarian for ten years before leaving the field to complete his Ph.D. in Information Studies at Florida State University. During his tenure as a school librarian, Aaron achieved National Board Certification, served as an assessor for the National Board, and mentored many candidates during their efforts to achieve certification. He also worked to increase collaboration between school and public libraries, serving as the liaison to the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative’s Young Adult Special Interest Group. In addition to serving as president of his local professional organization, Aaron facilitated one of their professional learning communities for many years. His work as a practitioner has influenced his research interests during his time in the doctoral program, which have coalesced around school librarians’ roles, children’s materials, and 21st Century Literacies.
