Change of Date and Location due to anticipated icy driving conditions. In hopes to attract a maximum number of attendees, we have opted to go with our Snow Date for this event. Our regrets for any inconvenience this may cause to faculty teaching on Thursdays. Dear Colleagues and Students, Please note that a Curriculum Space on APA Style on Thursday, February 13, 2014 will be held from 5:45 to 7:15 in the Rosenthal Library, 5th floor, President's Conference Room #2. This introduction to APA Style, with an emphasis on citations and references, is especially important for students in LBSCI 701, and for those in required core courses who have no previous experience with the 6th edition of the APA Style Manual. It should serve as an important refresher for any students needing to brush up on their APA skills, especially for those enrolled in LBSCI 709.. All classes starting at 3:55 will end early (just before 5:45), and 6:40 classes will start late (7:15), so that all interested students and faculty can attend. Curriculum Spaces are offered four times a semester, one each on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, to allow us to offer special events outside of regularly scheduled classes. We are hopeful that Mr. John Troynaski of the Writing Center will join us to speak about services offered by the QC Writing Center, and the importance of good writing. We hope to see you there. Walters started "Connect to Learning Summary from Bret Eynon" in CAT ePortfolio Subcommittee: "Dear C2L Friends & Colleagues, On Friday Jan. 24, in the historic Riggs Library at Georgetown University, we premiered our national ePortfolio website: "Catalyst for Learning: ePortfolio Resources and Research." We also demonstrated the site at two featured sessions at the national conference of the Association of American Colleges & Universities. Across the board, the reception was enthusiastic. We invite you to explore and begin using the Catalyst site, available at: www.c2l.mcnrc.org . The Catalyst site includes literally hundreds of evidence-based practices and strategies from the 24 C2L campuses, from Boston University to San Francisco State, Virginia Tech, Manhattanville, and Salt Lake Community College. It also highlights key findings, demonstrating the ways that ePortfolio initiatives can build student success and advance completion; deepen student learning and support purposeful self-authorship; and help campuses develop as adaptive learning organizations. We're delighted to be able to congratulate everyone who took part in and supported the Connect to Learning (C2L) project and contributed to the Catalyst site. Particular thanks go to C2L campus teams, who worked so hard all Fall to prepare rich campus portfolios, full of proven practices and thoughtful developmental stories. Thanks also to all of the faculty, staff, and students whose work informed the portfolios. Special thanks to all campus executive leaders and other stakeholders who support and guide the invaluable work of their campus teams. The FIPSE-funded Connect to Learning project was coordinated by the leaders of LaGuardia's Making Connections National Resource Center: Bret Eynon, Judit Torok and Mikhail Valentin, along with Laura Gambino of Guttman Community College. Invaluable roles were played by AAEEBL founder Trent Batson and our Senior Scholars, Georgetown's Randy Bass and Stanford's Helen Chen. The Catalyst site is already drawing attention -- it will be featured in two upcoming publications: * The Winter issue of AAC&U's Peer Review will include a featured article on C2L and the Catalyst site, along with case studies of three C2L campus initiatives (SFSU, Guttman, and Three Rivers), a survey of the field by IUPUI's Susan Kahn, and an editorial by Randy Bass. We expect this issue, which will also feature case studies from Notre Dame and Brown University, to be published in late February or early March. * The April issue of the peer-reviewed International Journal of ePortfolio will spotlight an article presenting C2L research findings, plus campus-specific research articles from four partner campuses (Northeastern, IUPUI, Manhattanville and Salt Lake Community College). Catalyst is a living site, and we will be adding to it in the weeks and months to come. We will be pleased to let you know as new features and essays are posted. We will also be doing publicity around its release, and will welcome your help and complementary efforts. We look forward to working with you to advance the use of the Catalyst site to address our shared goals.
