Individual, in-person tutoring is available: Monday-Thursday: 10 am-2 pm and 3-8 pm Friday: 10 am-1 pm Saturday: 10 am-2 pm The Writing Center is located in Kiely Hall, Room 229 and can be reached at 718-997-5676. Actual tutoring began on February 10, but students should apply for appointments as soon as possible because the Center follows a first-come, first-served policy. As in the past, students who can't get (or don't want) weekly appointments can schedule a one-hour "drop-in" appointment for work on a specific assignment, or they can "walk in" and hope that a tutor is available. Dear Colleagues and Students, Please note that a Curriculum Space on APA Style on Thursday, February 6, 2014 will be held from 5:45 to 7:15 in the Rosenthal Library, 5th floor, President's Conference Room #2. This introduction to APA Style, with an emphasis on citations and references, is especially important for students in LBSCI 701, and for those in required core courses who have no previous experience with the 6th edition of the APA Style Manual. It should serve as an important refresher for any students needing to brush up on their APA skills, especially for those enrolled in LBSCI 709.. All classes starting at 3:55 will end early (just before 5:45), and 6:40 classes will start late (7:15), so that all interested students and faculty can attend. Curriculum Spaces are offered four times a semester, one each on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, to allow us to offer special events outside of regularly scheduled classes. We are very pleased that Mr. John Troynaski of the Writing Center will join us to speak about services offered by the QC Writing Center, and the importance of good writing. We hope to see you there. Dear Colleagues, To assess how GSLIS program objectives are achieved in our courses, one approach is to use the distribution of the grades of assignments, because all assignments are already related to particular program objectives. If you haven't done so, PLEASE send me the grades of all assignments of students of your classes in last semester, so that I can start to work on the distribution of the grades across all courses. You should have your own record of the grades of all the assignments done by your students, so there is no extra work involved. Simply send me the grades in the format you are using (e.g., in MS Word table, in excel, or just text file) and I will do the rest. All I need is something like this: (1) Student's name (or any ID you use to represent the student) (2) The assignment number or week number or title or description (as specified in the the syllabus) (3) The grade of the assignment. Our next report to COA is the end of this month. PLEASE send the grades to me as soon as possible so that we can include the findings in the report.
