Dear Graduating Accounting Majors: I have great news for those students graduating this May or September and are qualified for direct entry into the Accounting Masters Program (Overall GPA 3.2+). No longer is it necessary for you to even file an application to join the program. We have created a seamless transition for you to enter graduate school. Sometime during your last semester you will be invited via e mail to join the Masters program. Simply click your acceptance, and you are automatically admitted. No application, no reference letters, no essay, and best of all, no GMAT. The Masters consists of only thirty (30) credits and can be completed in as little as one year (including one summer) for those students who are not working and can attend on a full time basis. Most courses are given in the evenings and weekends, which makes it very convenient for those students working either full time or part time. The Masters is by far the best way to complete the educational requirements necessary for you to become a licensed CPA in New York State. Most firms will not hire prospective employees unless they have met the 150 credit requirement. Our graduate students are in the best position to be chosen for these positions. In the long run, the Masters will serve to both enhance your knowledge and substantially increase your career opportunities. For those graduating students with a GPA of less than 3.2, you still have an opportunity to join the masters program. Generally, you must apply, but we will waive the application fee. To matriculate, you will need to submit three reference letters, a personal essay, and take the GMAT exam. The required GMAT score depends on your GPA. Generally the total of your three digit GPA and GMAT must equal or exceed 770. For example, if your GPA is 2.75, the GMAT necessary would be 495. In the alternative, the GMAT will be waived if you pass all four parts of the CPA exam. There is also the option of entering the masters program as a non-matriculated student. No GMAT, reference letters, or essay are required in conjunction with that application. As a non-matriculated student you can generally take one course per semester for up to four semesters as you prepare and take the GMAT or CPA exam which will allow you to matriculate in accordance with the formula above. Dear Second Degree Undergraduate Accounting Students: Due to a change in University policy, you may now take up to 12 graduate credits (in specified courses) as a second degree undergraduate, and use these credits for both your undergraduate and graduate degrees. Yes, you heard me correctly. "Double Dipping" is now legal. In effect, this means that you can earn your graduate degree by taking as few as 18 additional credits after completing your undergraduate degree. I know that many of you, who I fondly call my Option II students, had no intention of continuing on to the Masters. However, this may change your mind. If your cumulative GPA is 3.2+, you will be invited to join the program after you file for graduation. No application is even necessary. If you have the requisite GPA and want to start taking graduate courses in the Spring, contact me via email, or simply come in and see me on January 11 or 25 from 3-7 in PH 215. I will register you on the spot. Enhance your career opportunities. Be part of this new Accelerated Masters Program. You will be glad you did. Happy Holidays Professor Milich Director, Accounting Graduate Program PS Unfortunately this program is not open to first degree undergraduates who are still required to complete a total of 150 credits in order to qualify for the CPA license. Second degree students obviously have substantially more total credits than required when including their first degree in the credit count.
