Dear Graduating Accounting Majors: I have great news for those students graduating this academic year and are qualified for direct entry into the Accounting Masters Program (Overall GPA 3.2+). No longer is it necessary for you to even file an application to join the program. We have created a seamless transition for you to enter graduate school. Sometime during your last semester (after you have filed for graduation), you will be invited via e mail to join the Masters program. Simply click your acceptance, and you are automatically admitted. No application, no reference letters, no essay, and best of all, no GMAT. You may be also be able to defer your admission for one semester. The Masters consists of only thirty (30) credits and can be completed in as little as one year (including one summer) for those students who are not working and can attend on a full time basis. Most courses are given in the evenings and weekends, which makes it very convenient for those students working either full time or part time. The Masters is by far the best way to complete the educational requirements necessary for you to become a licensed CPA in New York State. Most firms will not hire prospective employees unless they have met the 150 credit requirement. Our graduate students are in the best position to be chosen for these positions. In the long run, the Masters will serve to both enhance your knowledge and substantially increase your career opportunities. For those graduating students with a GPA of less than 3.2, you still have an opportunity to join the masters program. Generally, you must apply, but we will waive the application fee. To matriculate, you will need to submit three reference letters, a personal essay, and to take the GMAT exam. The required GMAT score depends on your GPA. Generally the total of your three digit GPA and GMAT must equal or exceed 770. For example, if your GPA is 2.75, the GMAT necessary would be 495. In the alternative, the GMAT will be waived if you pass all four parts of the CPA exam. There is also the option of entering the masters program as a non-matriculated student. No GMAT, reference letters, or essay are required in conjunction with that application. As a non-matriculated student you can generally take one course per semester for up to four consecutive semesters as you prepare and take the GMAT or CPA exam which will allow you to matriculate in accordance with the formula above. To: All Undergraduate and Graduate Students From: Professor Marvin Milich (Graduate Director) and Steve Solieri (Instructor) Re: Data Analytics Course for Accountants & Auditors (ACC 385 and ACC 7913) This Spring 2020 the Accounting & Information Systems Department will be offering an Elective course in Data Analytics for Accountants (Three Credits) for the third time. The course will meet on Wednesdays from 6;00 to 8:50 (PH212). The Profession of Accounting is being fundamentally transformed by Data Analytics. Most large, intermediate and even smaller CPA Firms, private and public employers are looking for candidates that are exposed to a variety of these Data Analytic tools. This course will provide some of that exposure and a hand-on opportunity to utilize the most utilized software available. This class on Data Analytics is open to all Undergraduate Accounting students who have completed ACC 201 and may be applied as either an "A" = Accounting or "B" Business/Economics elective. Dr. Solieri will be the instructor and indicates that the class grading will be based exclusively on your hand-on assignments and class-work. Graduate students should discuss the class with Professor Milich during advising as there are substitute options for Graduate students who take the class. Students of all skill-levels in statistics, data and technology will be accommodated and Dr. Solieri will tailor your experience to your starting skill-level. All students will be exposed to the following Data Analytic Tools: Excel high-level functions and Pivot Tables, Monte Carlo Simulations (data modeling), IDEA Caseware (Audit Data Analytic Software by Audimation), Microsoft Power Business Intelligence, and Tableau Visualization Tools (A Sales-Force Company). Students needing remedial skills will be directed by Dr. Solieri to the appropriate resources and coached. The course also will discuss Blockchain technology, continuous auditing and cyber-security issues. Students will learn how to access and manipulate large data sets for Accounting, Managerial and Tax decision-making. The focus will be on the interpretation of the results and the use of the various tools and not necessarily on the calculations involved. Seating is limited to approximately 25.
