[Socrates] Using Navigate Alerts for Your Students

Worried about one of your students? Are they missing essential assignments? Are they struggling to pass tests? Reaching out to and working with students directly is ideal, but if you want additional direct messaging to lead them to use the free academic support resources on campus, use the QC Navigate Alert tool.



Initiating a Navigate Alert on your students pings the QC Learning Commons, who then reach out to the student to let them know you are concerned and offers to connect them with free academic support services.



Alerts available on Navigate:

  *   Missing Essential Assignments
  *   Needs Academic Support



What happens when you open an alert?

  *   Your student gets an automated email indicating that an alert was issued by an instructor, with information about accessing academic support.
  *   1-3 days later, the student gets an email and a text from the QC Keep Learning office, notifying the student to email you (messaging includes your QC email address) and reinforcing that free academic support services are available.

  *   Ensure that you’ve landed on the “Professor Home” page. Otherwise use the toggle button to switch from “Staff Home” to “Professor Home."
  *   Under the “Students in My Courses” section, click on the hyperlink for the student for whom you wish to issue an alert.
  *   On the right side of the screen, under the “Staff Alert” section, click on “Issue an Alert;” this will open a pop-up.
  *   Select the reason you believe the student needs assistance.
  *   Select the class associated with this alert. Enter any additional information you think may be useful to us (this is optional).
  *   Click “Submit.”
