The Center for Teaching & Learning is pleased to offer a discussion series for faculty interested in exploring research on learning and how it can be applied to enhance teaching practice and support student success. Using readings from the book "How Learning Works: Seven Research-Based Principles for Effective Teaching" (Ambrose et al., 2010), this discussion series will provide an opportunity for faculty to engage in an extended conversation about teaching and learning with colleagues from all disciplines.

By participating in this discussion series, faculty will have the opportunity to:
• consider key aspects of learning such as prior knowledge and misconceptions, organization of knowledge, practice and targeted feedback, metacognition, and learning environments.
• reflect on their teaching practices in the context of research on how people learn.
• identify or design a new pedagogical approach or strategy to be implemented in a current or upcoming course.
• participate in face-to-face and online discussions with seminar colleagues about implementing new practices and assessing their impact.
• convene with peers to present new pedagogical practices at the CTL Spring 2020 Teaching Showcase, scheduled for Friday, May 1.

Meetings are scheduled for Wednesdays from 12:00-2:00 during the Spring 2020 semester on the following dates:
February 5 and 19; March 4 and 18; April 1, 24 (Friday, Online), and 29; May 1 (Friday, CTL Teaching Showcase)
Lunch will be provided, and all participants will receive a copy of How Learning Works.

Faculty who participate in 7 of the 8 sessions including the CTL Teaching Showcase on May 1 will receive a stipend of $700 (paid as non-teaching adjunct salary in June 2020; workload restrictions apply).
