Are you interested in creating opportunities for your students to interact virtually with students overseas? Do you want to deepen your students’ cross-cultural skills and global outlook?

The Office of the Provost at Queens College is pleased to announce the launch of Queens College’s Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) (https://coil.qc.cuny.edu/) Faculty Fellowship workshops. Working closely with the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) (http://ctl.qc.cuny.edu/), the workshops will provide faculty support in the development of COIL-type courses.

COIL is a term created by the SUNY COIL Center (http://coil.suny.edu/) to describe “the four essential dimensions of real virtual mobility: it is a collaborative exercise of teachers and students; it makes use of online technology and interaction; it has potential international dimensions; and it is integrated into the learning process.”

In keeping with the goal of Strategic Plan 2015-2020 (https://www.qc.cuny.edu/about/strategic%20plan/Pages/default.aspx), “To weave campus, community, and global connections,” the aim of the Faculty Fellowship workshops is to offer a group of faculty members the opportunity to learn about Collaborative Online International Learning, develop strategies for incorporating it into their courses, advance research with international colleagues, and expand QC’s global presence.

Adding a COIL component to your course allows your students to gain cross-cultural skills through virtual interaction and enhances their international opportunities without leaving NYC. While the COIL component takes place solely online, your course may be face-to-face, hybrid or fully online. The focus of COIL is global/intercultural fluency, not technology.

Interested Queens College faculty from all disciplines are invited to attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 11th, 2019, from 12:15pm-1:30pm.

Please RSVP here for the informational meeting (RSVP due 9/5): http://shorturl.at/ahkn3

The application deadline to be part of the initial cohort for Fall 2019 is September 20th, 5pm (see detailed information on the COIL Faculty Fellowship structure, eligibility and application on CTL website: http://ctl.qc.cuny.edu/coil-at-qc/).

Faculty selected for the program will receive:
        1.      Structured support via the workshops and informal support via CTL.
        2.      A stipend of $250 when all 3 workshops are completed.
