Hello all!

Queens Memory is pleased to invite you to our first "Volunteers in the Vaults" gathering of the new academic year! We will meet next Thursday, September 5, at the Bayside Historical Society's headquarters at "The Castle" in Fort Totten (208 Totten Ave., Bayside, NY), from 6 to 8 pm.

The Castle, built in 1887, was originally used by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as the Officers' Mess Hall and Club. The Gothic Revival-style building is a NYC designated landmark, and is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Attendees will be treated to a tour of The Castle and will engage with special treasures prepared for us by the BHS staff. They will also have a chance to discuss ideas for Queens-related oral history projects and network with Queens Memory volunteers and staff.

Queens Memory is jointly sponsored by the Queens Public Library and Queens College. Faculty are welcome to come discuss ideas for class oral history projects. Please email lori.wallach at qc.cuny.edu<mailto:lori.wallach at qc.cuny.edu> to RSVP or for more information.

Thanks, and hope to see some of you there!
Lori
