DRAMA 3903 – 02 (54155) Special Topics - Business of Art
Wednesday 1:40PM - 4:30PM
After last spring’s successful launch, I am excited to teach this course again next semester.
This course is designed for students to develop the business skill sets necessary for a successful and sustainable career in the arts. Designed for artists across disciplines, the course utilizes proven corporate Strategic Planning methods adapted for the arts. The course provides the tools to articulate and develop clear strategies for achieving short and long-term goals, increasing productivity, effectively managing time and the essentials of financial literacy. Weekly lectures and practical exercises explore topics including marketing, fundraising, verbal and written communications, work samples and online presence. Case studies of artists who have successfully implemented these best practices will be examined. Throughout the semester, students will apply the content of each weekly topic to their own projects. By the semester’s conclusion, each student will have a long-term Strategic Plan for their work.
