College Now and Cyphers for Justice youth from high schools around the city, along with CUNY preservice teachers, researchers, university professors, teaching artists and community activists, came together to co-develop and direct research projects that featured exploration of social issues including the impact of standardized testing, culturally relevant curriculum, and environmental justice.

This interactive session will expose participants to Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) as a pedagogy, a methodology, and a critical epistemology that can be leveraged in educational contexts to promote powerful learning. Youth researchers, pre-service teachers, and teacher educators will discuss their experiences in a collaborative, youth-centered research initiative and offer suggestions for adapting YPAR in both informal and formal educational settings.
