Hello all -- hope everyone is enjoying the summer!

Starting in mid-September, Queens Memory will co-sponsor an innovative maker workshop, "Memories of Migration: Making a Talking Family Story Quilt." In this free six-session series, intergenerational pairs of participants will work together on activities including storytelling, simple electronics and textile art making. <http://queensmemory.org/events>

During the first three sessions, pairs will be instructed on how to record their family stories and program them onto Arduino LilyPads -- electronic devices that will then be wired into the fabric they choose for their pieces of the quilt. Teaching artist Karen Fitzgerald will lead participants through the next three sessions of quilt-making. The results will be combined into an interactive story quilt that will be displayed in a public exhibit at the Fresh Meadows Community Library. Participants will take home their pieces of the quilt following the exhibition.

The sessions will be held on six Saturday afternoons -- Sept. 16 and 23, and Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28 -- from 2:30 to 4:30 pm at the Fresh Meadows Library. Registration is limited. To sign up or for more information, contact Lori Wallach at Lori.Wallach at qc.cuny.edu<mailto:Lori.Wallach at qc.cuny.edu> or (718) 990-8532.

See flyer attached, and please feel free to pass on to any students or colleagues who may be interested.

Hope to see some of you there!
