Body-based Composition with Larissa Velez-Jackson
Today's performing artists are expected to improvise, choreograph, sing, speak and more onstage and in the creative process. Improvisation-based choreographer and multimedia artist Larissa Velez-Jackson shares her compositional practice and improvisation technique, Star Crap Method, to prepare students for the full use of their movement, voice and creativity that is expected of today's body-based artists. Appropriate for performers and/or creators in dance, theater and performance art and students (or those) that are curious about these concepts.

Larissa Velez-Jackson is a choreographer and hybrid-artist who uses improvisation as a main tool for research and creation. She has presented work at numerous NYC venues such as: Roulette, New Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Art and Design, Danspace Project, American Realness Festival at Abrons Arts Center and Chocolate Factory Theater. In 2011, she launched a song-and-dance collaboration with her husband Jon Velez-Jackson called Yackez, "The Worlds Most Loveable Music Duo". Velez-Jackson was a Movement Research Artist in Residence '12-'13 and an El Museo Del Barrio Artist in Residence '14. She will premiere a full-length evening with Yackez in 2017 at New York Live Arts. Velez-Jackson was recently awarded the prestigious Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grant to Artists for 2016, on her tenth year anniversary of professionally showing work.
