Dear all,
As we approach the end of the academic year and the festive commencement season, I wanted to let you all know that our students have done very well in this year's Fulbright competition, as well as in those for other major awards. We have 7 students this year who have been offered Fulbrights to Brazil, Cyprus, South Korea, Sweden and Taiwan. The program allows students with a wide range of interests in study, research, the creative and performing arts, and teaching to spend a year immersed in the life and culture of another country, gaining invaluable personal and professional experience useful for many different future plans. This year's Fulbright application is now open, and a number of students have attended our information sessions on the program. However, I have found that many students need additional prompting to move from thinking about Fulbright to actually believing that they can submit a competitive application. Many have to overcome the feeling that they are not "Fulbright material". As faculty, you know your students' abilities, and are well-able to encourage them to apply. As you reflect on your classes this year, it would be great if you could either encourage individual students to contact me to explore Fulbright or send me contact information for students you would recommend. Either way, I am happy to work with students on formulating their proposals and in making revisions throughout the summer. our campus deadline is September 11th so the sooner students can plan how to use their summers productively, the more competitive their Fulbright applications will be. Please feel free to get in touch with any questions or to direct students to me.
Best,
Moira
