The organization NYC Media Lab is announcing a grant/prize program for researchers (faculty or students) who are working on data analysis for a civic cause (through collaborations with non-profits or NGOs).  They are also organizing a conference on the topic.  Apply for the grant or to present at the conference by August 1.  More details below and here:
