I'm writing to ask you to encourage your students to consider applying for one of the nine special Summer Institutes being offered by the US-UK Fulbright Commission. These Institutes provide the opportunity for freshmen and sophomores to explore the UK on a three to six week academic and cultural program. Students may choose from many topics, including British children's literature, archaeology, business and preventative medicine, among others.
Almost all costs for this prestigious fellowship are covered, so it's a wonderful opportunity for talented students who might prefer a shorter overseas experience to begin to establish a record of external funding. Some students have been emailed about this, and I've written a blog post which is available at http://macaulay.cuny.edu/eportfolios/qcfellowships/2015/01/22/summer-abroad-fellowship-for-freshmen-andn-sophomores/ Depending on the program, applications are due either February 26th or March 5th.
I will host an information session on Wednesday, February 4th in Rm. 17 during free hour, from 12:15pm-1:30pm. This will be a chance for students to learn more about the application process and the nine institutes.
