Self-publishing has profoundly democratized the publishing industry, enabling anyone with web access to publish a book. But what has really changed for authors, publishers, and readers, and what does it mean for what books get published and for authors' careers? Sociologist Dana Beth Weinberg has studied the changing book industry over the past five years as both a researcher with unprecedented access to industry data and as a novelist navigating career and publishing decisions. Her essays on publishing may be found on her blog danabethweinberg.com and on Digital Book World's expert publishing blog at digitalbookworld.com.
