Hi everyone:

Apologies for the impersonal BCC email.  Those of you interested in experiential education will no doubt be interested in what's doing with the CUNY Service Corps.  This year, about 100 QC students (and several hundred from 7 other CUNY schools) have been participating as Service Corps members, working for community organizations with service functions (http://www.cuny.edu/servicecorps).

If you haven't heard, there are two deadlines coming up:

The first, for students to apply for internships, is March 31 (see blurb below for you to forward to your students: please help spread the word; I am told there's a dearth of applicants for the education focus; the Corps is open to both graduate and undergraduate students; they are eager to get more applications from students who can do stats (psych or soc) and students from programs with a focus on nutrition and health, anthropology, neuroscience, and political science).

The second deadline, for faculty to apply to be Service Corps sites (and get paid volunteers to work with you on your research), is April 4.  More information is here: http://www.cuny.edu/site/servicecorps/faculty.html

CUNY Service Corps is recruiting for its next cohort of students for the 2014-2015 academic year. Service Corps provides paid service opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students - 12 hours a week, $12 an hour, 24 week commitment. *   A Better Educated City: Corps members offer valuable supports to students of all ages, such as those in early childhood programs (and their families and caretakers), public middle and high school students, fellow CUNY students struggling with academic and personal challenges, and adult students learning English or preparing to take the High School Equivalency examination.

*   An Economically Stronger City: Corps members focus on small business development, local budgeting, fundraising for nonprofits and community issues, financial literacy as well as helping eligible families to access tax credits in order to bolster the economic viability and success of distressed communities within the city.
