Dear Colleagues:

Provost Hendrey informs me that President Muyskens has authorized a search for the position of Dean of Social Sciences, with an anticipated date of hire of August 2014. We are hopeful that the Academic Senate will elect a search committee at its first meeting in the fall, in order to attract the best possible candidate pool."

1. There would be 12 people on the search committee, 5 full time faculty from Social Sciences and five students and one faculty member and one student from the Education Division. (One need NOT be a Senator to serve on this search committee)

2. You can poll people and even submit someone's name -- as long as they approve of the submission -- or people may self-nominate to serve on a search committee, if they are otherwise qualified as listed in the paragraph immediately above. Names to be considered MUST be submitted using the Nominating Committee form on the Senate website "at least 14 days prior to the meeting" -- which in this instance would August 29, 2013 -- 14 days prior to September 12, 2013. Please go to http://senate.qc.cuny.edu/NomCom/Application.xhtml for information and the application form.

What follows are excerpts 1> from the QC Academic Senate Charter* regarding the number of and qualifications of members of a search committee for an academic dean (other than the Dean of Education) and 2> from the Bylaws** regarding rules for timely submission of names.
