[UrbanStudiesCircular] Dec 16: City-Wide Rally Against Displacement at Gracie Mansion
City-Wide Rally Against Displacement at Gracie Mansion Coalition to Protect Chinatown & the Lower East Side Wednesday, December 16 4:00 PM Gracie Mansion 181 East End Ave New York, NY 10128 More info: https://www.facebook.com/events/1683457841899350/ and http://www.boweryboogie.com/2015/12/coalition-to-protect-chinatown-and-the-l... This is an EMERGENCY CALL TO ACTION! Mayor de Blasio is ignoring the needs of working families and people of color time and again by pushing luxury development in the name of creating "affordable" housing. In the Lower East Side and Chinatown, he has blatantly disregarded a community-led rezoning plan seven years in the making. He has dismissed similar efforts for an alternative plan in East New York, Brooklyn and is set to do the same for Jerome Avenue in South Bronx and Flushing, Queens. This past month, nearly 50 Community Boards rejected his mandatory citywide zoning, yet the Mayor responded by saying their opinions didn't count. This is undemocratic. A strong multi-ethnic alliance is emerging in opposition. We are calling for the people of New York City to unite and say "No" to Mayor de Blasio's developer-led rezonings, "Yes" to community-led rezoning! ??
