[UrbanStudiesCircular] Course opportunity for Urban Studies majors in European Languages and Literatures Department
The Queens College French Club recently won a grant competition sponsored by the French Embassy. They will research and develop a guidebook and website devoted to French and Francophone cultural, commercial, and dining sites in Queens, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Manhattan above 96th St. The project will carried out in Spring 2016 and we would like to involve students from many different majors. The department of European Languages and Literatures will offer a 3 credit hybrid online to students participating in this project. We are particularly interested in involving students with knowledge of project management and website development. Participate in a unique experiential learning opportunity. Gain useful project-development skills while exploring French and Francophone cultures in your own backyard! Euro 398. (77868) Internship: Hors Centre / Beyond the Center. 3crs., 3 hrs. Tues. 1:40PM - 3:30PM* Dr. Greet Van Belle Students in Euro 398 will produce "Hors Centre: NYC French and Francophone Guide to Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Staten Island, and Manhattan above 96th St," a guidebook and website of French and Francophone cultural, commercial, and dining establishments in New York City. Students will gain skills in writing and editing and will be listed as co-authors and editors of the guidebook/web site. Students will be actively involved in all aspects of designing and managing the project and will be evaluated on the quality of their participation in and reflection on these processes as well as on the quality of the product. The course will be conducted in English. Knowledge of French is helpful, but not required for this course. *Note that this is a hybrid-online course. Face to face meetings will be organized based on students' availability. Since the course involves a good deal of off-site research, it will not meet every Tuesday afternoon.
