[UrbanStudiesCircular] Paid Summer Graduate Internship: Bronx Cooperative Development Initiative
The Bronx Cooperative Development Initiative is looking for a graduate intern to work under the Planning and Policy Lab, a center for economic democracy planning and policy development-by, with, and for the Bronx. The internship will last for 8-10 weeks over the summer and will support the development of the Bronx Community Land Trust, spearheaded by core partner, the ?Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition? (NWBCCC). The intern will gain invaluable hands-on experience supporting community stakeholders to develop a model for collective ownership and control of land in the face of gentrification and displacement pressures. Responsibilities Working with BCDI, NWBCCC and the community development committee, the intern will support the Bronx CLT through: ? Conducting ongoing research, analysis, and due diligence of potential acquisitions for the CLT ? Researching examples and learnings of CLTs around the globe and proposing how relevant lessons could work within NYC's existing legal and economic restrictions ? Working with the CLT board and community development committee, comprised of NWBCCC members, in developing campaigns for parcel acquisition ? Helping to guide a process to develop an instrument for community surveying ? Participating in team and relevant partner meetings Required Skills and Qualifications ? Current graduate student in urban planning, public policy, real estate, economics, or other relevant fields preferred ? Interest in housing, economic development, cooperative development, economic democracy ? Familiarity with the community land trust model ? Familiarity or experience with community engagement or community organizing ? Excellent written and verbal communication skills ? Experience working with quantitative data analysis, including Excel ? Ability to multi-task with attention to detail Preferred Skills and Experience ? Experience with participatory action research methodology ? One to two years of experience working in urban studies and planning, housing and real estate development, data analysis, or project management ? Experience working in New York City housing and real estate and/or community-based organizations ? Spanish-language proficiency Commitment and Compensation ? The position pays $20/hour ? The position is full time (40 hrs/week), with a June 2019 start date, to be finalized upon acceptance ? Residence in NYC, working primarily in BCDI's office in the Bronx ?
