[UrbanStudiesCircular] Fw: Museum of the City of New York, GROUP TOURS - Mastering the Metropolis and New York at Its Core
Upcoming exhibits of interest at Museum of the City of New York.... ________________________________ From: Joan Bright <jbright@mcny.org> Sent: Monday, October 24, 2016 2:02 PM To: Scott M Larson Subject: Museum of the City of New York, GROUP TOURS - Mastering the Metropolis and New York at Its Core Dear Professor Larson: I write to bring to your attention the availability of Group Tours<http://www.mcny.org/tours> at the Museum of the City of New York. The upcoming exhibitions New York at Its Core<http://www.mcny.org/nyatitscore> (November 18-ongoing) and Mastering the Metropolis: New York and Zoning, 1916-2016<http://www.mcny.org/exhibition/mastering-metropolis> (November 9, 2016-April, 2017) may be of particular interest. Five years in the making, New York at Its Core is the first-ever museum show to comprehensively interpret and present the compelling story of New York's rise from a striving Dutch village to today's "Capital of the World." Occupying the entire first floor in three interactive galleries-Port City, 1609-1898; World City, 1989-2012, and Future City Lab-New York at Its Core is shaped by four themes: money, density, diversity and creativity. On the 100th anniversary of America's first comprehensive zoning resolution, Mastering the Metropolis: New York and Zoning, 1916-2016 will examine the effects of the evolving law and chart the history of the city's zoning rules and debates to the current day, illuminating how the tools of zoning have reflected a century of evolving ideas about what constitutes an "ideal" city. There is also a wide array of programming<http://www.mcny.org/exhibition/mastering-metropolis#Related%20Programs> organized around each exhibition that might also prove of interest to your students. I am happy to answer any questions and help coordinate a Group Tour for your students of these compelling exhibitions. Please also feel free to share the information on the exhibitions and the availability of Group Tours with your colleagues. Best, Joan Joan H.
