Labor insecurity and housing insecurity go hand in hand: if you don't have a job, it's hard to keep yourself housed, and if you don't have housing, it's hard to keep a job. Meanwhile, if your employment is precarious, your housing likely is too, and if your housing is precarious-whether threatened by gentrification, shady landlords, or municipal negligence-your ability to labor is affected. But how are labor issues specificallyconnected to housing issues? How does labor exploitation ramify in housing exploitation and vice versa? How can we think of struggles for housing, variously considered, as labor issues, and why should we consider them as such? What can labor movements learn from housing movements, and how can we think these movements together? We're thinking of gentrification, tenants' rights, and housing for people without homes, but also of Native dispossession, deportation, and other structures and practices that produce housing (and labor) insecurity. In other words, the connections between land, settlement, borders, and racial capital as they work together in the present moment, renovating (or not) their past entanglements as they produce and reproduce labor and housing issues.
