If you are sophomores and are seriously considering pursuing a Ph.D., please see the below information for a potential funding source. Please note that the deadline is coming up very soon! Best, Prof. Brian Rosa
From Francois Pierre-Louis, Coordinator, Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship:
I have the pleasure of inviting you to nominate candidates for the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship. As many of you know, the fellowship, now in its twenty-fourth year at Queens, supports exceptional undergraduates who plan to attain the PhD and enter the professoriate. Eligible students should be sophomores with outstanding academic potential. They must identify themselves as minority students or have a demonstrated commitment to eradicating racial disparities and promoting racial and ethnic understanding. In addition, they must have a GPA of 3.3 or above and be majors in one of the following Mellon-designated fields: Anthropology Area Studies Art History Classics Computer Science Demography Earth Science Ecology English Ethnomusicology Film, Cinema & Media Studies Foreign Languages Geography & Population Studies Geology History Linguistics Literature Mathematics Musicology Philosophy Physics Political Theory Religion Sociology Theatre (non-performance focus) Students selected for the fellowship receive two years of financial and intellectual support. In addition to receiving tuition reimbursement and an annual stipend of up to $7,000, they work closely with a faculty mentor to prepare for advanced study in their fields. The participation of the Queens College faculty, both in nominating students and in serving as their mentors, is crucial to the continued success of the program. I urge you to consider nominating a student this year. Applications will be accepted until Tuesday, April 26. Completed applications can be dropped off at Delany Hall 125. The application form can be downloaded and printed from the following link: http://qcpages.qc.cuny.edu/qcmellon/pdfs/applicationform.pdf<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001RXDDLM-t5ixs62LgnuBjdmN4SRvhpvePqHd5fsN1h0iymDJPMGhgwMKDptidYYcuNW4DOaAD2traZNrI4ABqQTL_Vo3R-4bGqwrmJX8LpbXhMFAujHhskY4I5FNXkTt_J6ZUPA2ivHCRXdLixdvSffpn2caiWGLeHtSNY2lo2odgbBVw0nQ4mLJQbe5xJgPse9rpWtiB-WDo_ucu3fUL9ct2WdKHOF1W&c=-sPpXMtyFuT6zutuRxA2fTE7CTIRuS41jnmcCzJV0F-ourm75Qu9EQ==&ch=pyCHZzKWAUH5kYNSa1QcrKt8C5MnG9Nl1v_igI5nGrmrC2ygdrckZQ==>.
