________________________________ 2019 Farm & Compost Internship<https://queensbotanical.org/employment/>: Interns will support NYC Compost Project staff in running and maintaining one acre of intensively planted, mixed vegetable, fruit, and flower production and educational areas. Interns will also help support on-site composting operations; including processing organics collected at food scrap drop-offs. We are looking for dedicated, hard-working individuals with a keen interest in urban farming and composting. Deadline for applications is February 4. NYC MASTER COMPOSTER CERTIFICATE PROGRAM AT QUEENS BOTANICAL GARDEN<https://queensbotanical.org/farmandcompost/workshops-programming/> The NYC Compost Project Master Composter Certificate Program is an advanced composting course that trains a select group of New Yorkers every year to support, develop, and maintain community-based composting projects across all five boroughs. The course requires 24 hours of classroom instruction, two field trips, 30 hours of compost-related fieldwork, and a final project. The course covers the following topics: * Soil, decomposition, and compost science. * How to design and build a variety of compost systems suitable for urban areas. * How to start and manage a composting project in your community. * How to use finished compost. * Techniques for teaching others about composting. 2019 Master Composter Course Details Location: Queens Botanical Garden Dates and Times: 6 Thursdays, 2 Sundays Thursdays March 21, 28, April 4, 11, 18, 25 | 6-9pm Sundays April 7, 14 | 10am-1pm 2 Field Trips will be mandatory and scheduled in addition to class time.
