[UrbanStudiesCircular] Eastern Queens Meeting on Joining Community Boards
On Monday, November 20th, from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm, Transportation Alternatives Queens will host an event with information on how to join your local community board. The event will take place at the Old Quaker Meeting House (137-16 Northern Blvd, Flushing, NY). Community Boards are sites of power and decision-making for much of New York City's transportation policy. The up to 50 volunteer appointees of each board directly influence how streets are used and which modes of transportation are prioritized. If these boards sometimes seem disconnected and unrepresentative of the neighborhoods they oversee, that will only change when new and different Queens residents apply to join them and are appointed. Join us at our November Monthly Meeting to learn how to join your local Community Board. You'll hear from current Community Board members tell how they joined and what the process was like. We'll demystify it all for you, so you are ready to apply in 2018. We'll also have updates on the Northern Boulevard safety improvements, social ride planning, and next steps to continue making Eastern Queens safe for pedestrians and cyclists.? https://www.facebook.com/events/1422932061160381/
