The AFSCME Union Scholars Program offers a summer field internship to students who have a passion for social justice! Knowing that there are billion dollar corporations in the U.S. whose employees make below minimum wage, have little to no benefits, and have to work insane hours just to make ends meet; we here at AFSCME prioritize working families and believe in fighting for social justice, within our jobs and communities. *The application is now live at **tmcf.org* <https://tmcf.org/our-scholarships/current-scholarships/tmcf-afscme-union-scholarship/7700> *.* The Union Scholars Program is a 10-week summer field placement internship where students get a glimpse of what it’s like to be a part of and even work for a labor union. Students will talk to workers about gaining a voice on the job, fair wages and benefits for themselves and their families-by joining a union. AFSCME has always been a union that advocates for fairness in the workplace; and prosperity and opportunity for all working families. Applicants must be students of color (African-American, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian American Pacific Islander, Latino/a,) be a sophomore or junior at the time of application and interview process, and have at least a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Students will receive on-site housing, a stipend of $4,000 over the course of the internship, and will also qualify for an academic scholarship of up to $6,300 for the 2017-2018 school year, based upon successful completion of the program. By participating in the Union Scholars Program, students can earn money for college, as well as gain meaningful work experience to help them consider future opportunities. *To apply, please visit **tmcf.org* <https://tmcf.org/our-scholarships/current-scholarships/tmcf-afscme-union-scholarship/7700>*. All applications are due by February 28, 2017.* If you have questions about the program or would like further information, please contact the Program Coordinator, Deanna Richards at (202)429-1202 <(202)%20429-1202> or email drichards@afscme.org.
