I would like to share exciting upcoming community events presented by the NYC Compost Project hosted by Queens Botanical Garden. We have two very big days coming up in March! Compost Mania on March 3 will be a day dedicated to all things compost and will include hands-on activities and mini workshops. Our Compost Giveback on March 24 will allow Queens residents to pick up free finished compost for their gardens, yards and houseplants. Both events are free, and we want to spread the word across Queens! ? Compost Mania Saturday, March 3, 12 to 4pm * Free * Drop-In Register: compostmania2018.eventbrite.com See decomposers under the microscope, meet our red wiggler worms, mix your own potting soil, sow some seeds, and roll wildflower seed balls! Take home what you make! This family-friendly day is all about compost-how it's made and used. Find out why recycling food scraps and yard waste creates a more sustainable urban environment! Activities will be ongoing, but don't miss our mini-workshops: * Making a Backyard Batch - 1pm * Composting at QBG - 3pm Compost for Community Gardens Thursday, March 15, 5:30 to 7:30pm * Free Registration required: compost4communitygardens.eventbrite.com Reimagine your garden as one where yard waste and veggie scraps are transformed into a rich soil amendment that creates a lush bounty. There's no magic involved, only composting! Learn to make compost, determine the bin that's best for your garden, and set up a management plan. Presented in partnership with GreenThumb. Compost Giveback Saturday, March 24, 10am to 1pm * Free Registration required: qbgcompostgiveback.eventbrite.com It's time to get your garden started, and we're giving away FREE compost to celebrate! Bring your own bags and bins (we'll bring the shovels) and stop by the QBG Parking Garden (42-80 Crommelin Street). Although staff will be present to assist if needed, please come prepared to fill and carry out your own containers. Our compost is made from residential food scraps collected locally and processed at QBG. If you have any questions about our programs or would like to learn more about what we offer at Queens Botanical Garden, please don't hesitate to contact me.
