Taylor Center: Reflections on a Recent Stay at Rikers Island Jarrod Shanahan, Department of Environmental Psychology, CUNY Graduate Center As the movement to close down New York City’s notorious Rikers Island penal colony gains momentum, join doctoral student Jarrod Shanahan for a report back on recent time spent as inmates at the island's Eric M. Taylor Center (formerly C-76). EMTC houses sentenced male inmates serving sentences of one year or less, mostly in dormitory style housing. Jarrod will discuss daily life at the facility from the inmate perspective, provide preliminary analysis situating the facility in recent NYC history and political economy, and answer questions.
