Queens Community House’s Beacon Programs are seeking passionate, motivated, eager to learn Group Leaders and Activity Specialists to enthusiastically and actively supervise, engage and develop youth participants in grades ranging from Kindergarten-12th. Candidates with experience, talents and passion teaching specific activities or theme-based clubs including: literacy, arts, science, technology, engineering, math, cooking, drama, dance, youth council, leadership, service-learning or sports are encouraged to apply and highlight those talents and experiences. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Actively monitor, engage and ensure safety of participants during all program activities, including pick-up, snack, transitions, field trips, clubs, activities, and dismissal. * Create Project-Based Learning curricula with lesson plans for each group session. Utilize curricula and lesson plans to facilitate purposeful and engaging activities and on-going theme-based projects catered to the age, stage and interests of participants as well as the needs of the school community. * Assist participants with literacy; encourage academic effort and efficacy. * Collaborate with co-workers and program supervisors around effective program operations; uphold all safety and emergency standards and procedures. * Always demonstrate professional behavior. Serve as a positive role model for participants and maintain appropriate and professional boundaries with participants at all times. * Actively participate in training and professional development to continuously increase knowledge, principles and practices of child and youth development and actively use this knowledge to achieve the goals of the program. * Promote responsible and healthy decision-making among all participants. * Develop leadership skills, team-building and self-advocacy among all participants. * Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces diversity. * Foster academic and non-academic skills and broaden participant horizons. * Maintain accurate daily attendance records for all assigned activities. Required Skills/Experience: * One year After-school work experience, one full summer camp work experience, or two years related experience. * Interest and experience in youth development and academic enrichment. * Genuine enthusiasm for developing professional skills through training opportunities, observation, coaching, and feedback. * Some availability Mon – Fri between 2:00pm to 9:30pm and/or Sat between 9am – 5pm; totaling a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 19 hours per week. * Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a broad range of people including school staff, parents, co-workers and supervisors. * Ability to meet School Age Child Care (SACC) requirements and obtain clearances including: background checks, fingerprinting by NYC Dept of Health, fingerprinting by NYC Dept of Ed, annual medical clearance and annual TB test documentation. * Ability to effectively manage time and to demonstrate strong organizational skills. * Ability to obtain and submit educational documentation as well as three letters of reference.
