MSG TO CUNY STUDENTS: Hello CUNY students, I am PhD Candidate in Geography & Food Studies (Earth & Environmental Sciences Dept) at CUNY Grad Center working with the new CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute (housed at the CUNY School of Public Health) on a CUNY campus food project. We are trying to develop a network of individual students, student groups, faculty and staff across all CUNY campuses who are interested in investigating and changing CUNY food services. For example, this could mean working toward more organic/biodynamic/sustainably-grown, plant-based, traditional/artisanal, and/or culturally appropriate food. It could also involve ensuring social justice for employees of the food service companies and other companies throughout food commodity chains, and/or fair financial practices of the food service companies and their parent companies. We are holding visioning meetings and conducting an online survey this Spring to gather input from as many CUNY students as possible. At the end of the semester, we'll have a CUNY-wide networking and planning event where we'll discuss future initiatives for individual campuses and the entire CUNY system.
