[UrbanStudiesCircular] Recruiting Research Assistants: Center for Migration Studies Project on Immigrants' Access to NYC Services and Programs
by urbanstudiescircular@lists.qc.cuny.edu 07 Jul '20

07 Jul '20
Hello All, I hope you're well! Thanks so much for sharing our request for data help with your colleagues. We are rebooting our project on immigrants' access to New York City services and programs, with an emphasis on understanding whether and how fear influences immigrants' engagement with the City. We started this project in February but it was put on hold due to the pandemic. We are still looking to hire some additional RAs/interviewers for this study. As a reminder, we are searching for student research assistants who can help us complete about 100 interviews with immigrants in NYC. All interviews will be held virtually or telephonically. Graduate students are preferred, but advanced undergraduate students will be considered. Since we're moving the project online, it is not necessary that interviewers reside in New York, although it may be helpful for building rapport. All interviews must take place between September and January 2021. Scheduling is flexible, but we ask that research assistants commit to completing between 5 and 10 interviews. At this time, we have a particular need for students who are native or near-native speakers of the following languages: Spanish Haitian Creole Uzbek French (as spoken in Senegal, Guinea, and the Ivory Coast) Russian Hindi / Urdu Cantonese Nepali We are also seeking interviewers who are familiar with Caribbean immigrant communities, including Jamaican, Guyanese, and Trinidadian communities. Interviewers will be paid $20 per hour. If you know any students that might fit these descriptions, it'd be great if you could pass this information along to them. I've attached an (updated) informational flyer. Please also forward this along to any colleagues at your university that might know interested students. Interested students should send a resume and (optional) cover letter to me at mnicholson(a)cmsny.org<mailto:mnicholson@cmsny.org>. I'd also be happy to answer any questions they have. Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks!
