Dear TIME 2000 Students,
I hope you and your loved ones are well. Please continue to contact Dr. Artzt and me if you wish to meet online or talk on the phone. In the meantime, a TIME 2000 Google Classroom page has been set up and you are invited to join. Please do so immediately as this will help to avoid problems logging in to TIME 2000 virtual meetings. Remember that you must join using your QC EMAIL address.
Directions:
1. Go to classroom.google.com
2. Log in using QC CAMS account (ends in @qc.cuny.edu) - if you haven't activated a CAMS account - why not? -- do this first. Email Alyssa, copied on this email, for directions if needed.
3. Click "+" in upper right corner - "join a class"
4. Enter class code 3red2dr
I look forward to seeing you!

Dear TIME 2000 Students,
I hope this email finds you in good health.
Several of you have asked about summer courses. Once QC announced that the summer classes will be taught remotely, some students told me that they do not want to take summer classes. Today, one of the seniors suggested that you consider taking summer courses so that you do not fall behind on the required courses and to avoid having to take 6 classes one (or even two) semesters, something that is never recommended.
With this in mind, I thought it would be a good idea for you to share your experiences taking online courses at QC. I will then share the recommendations, both positive and negative, for you to have as more classes might transition to online only options in the future. The recent alumni are included for their recommendations, as well.
Please complete the online course survey as soon as possible and by the end of this week.

Thank you. We will all get farther together!

"This is a tough time for students. Stay strong and in a world with a lot of what ifs let's think about these ones a bit...
With the rest of the school year going to online learning and in some places, canceled altogether-students will miss 2 to 2.5 months of traditional classroom time.
Many people are concerned about students falling behind because of this. Yes, they may fall behind when it comes to classroom education...
But what if...
What if instead of falling "behind", this group of kids are ADVANCED because of this? Hear me out.
What if they have more empathy, they enjoy family connection, they can be more creative and entertain themselves, they love to read, they love to express themselves in writing.
What if they enjoy the simple things, like their own backyard and sitting near a window in the quiet.
What if they notice the birds and the dates the different flowers emerge, and the calming renewal of a gentle rain shower?
What if this generation are the ones to learn to cook, organize their space, do their laundry, and keep a well run home?
What if they learn to stretch a dollar and to live with less?
What if they learn to plan shopping trips and meals at home.
What if they learn the value of eating together as a family and finding the good to share in the small delights of the everyday?
What if they are the ones to place great value on our teachers and educational professionals, librarians, public servants and the previously invisible essential support workers like truck drivers, grocers, cashiers, custodians, logistics, and health care workers and their supporting staff, just to name a few of the millions taking care of us right now while we are sheltered in place?
What if among these children, a great leader emerges who had the benefit of a slower pace and a simpler life to truly learn what really matters in this life?
What if they are AHEAD?
Dearest TIME 2000 Sophomores,
I hope you and your families are well. Dr. Artzt and I greatly appreciated your candor in the journal assignments recently submitted. Several students have requested that group conferences continue in order to be together and to speak about different concerns you have. We thought it would be good to set up a few small group conferences via Google Meet. I will set up two meetings for Tuesday, April 7, which is following a Monday schedule during free hour. Below are the meetings I am proposing. If you can't get on one meeting, you can always join the other. If these times are not good for you and you wish to speak, we will work out another time, just let me know. Or if any of these times conflict with everyone's schedule please let me know.
Click on this link to the meeting at your meeting time:

You will be able to see everyone and have the option to speak or to text via the chat box or just hang out and listen.

Good Morning everyone,
I hope this email finds you all well. I hope your families are happy and healthy in this very hectic time. Typically, a survey is given out during this time of year to rate the performance of the lab technician (Alyssa Figueroa). Due to campus restrictions, I have decided to give the survey via Google Drive.
If possible, please take a moment to complete the lab survey at this link:
https://forms.gle/4A3NMwxdf4b9yu3B9
Note that the survey can be completed anonymously.
Thank you in advance.

Dear Math Ed Students,
As I watch the news, I noticed that there is so much math in the news reports now and the speakers are saying things like "Do the Math!"

Dear TIME 2000 Students,
I hope you and your family members are well and staying healthy. Dr. Artzt and I continue to miss you terribly and cannot wait until we can all return to campus. We are concerned and would like to hear from you by way of a journal assignment.
The following assignment is required for all freshmen, but all students are welcome to respond as we would love to know how you are doing. Journals should be submitted via e-mail to both Dr. Artzt (qcartzt(a)gmail.com<mailto:qcartzt@gmail.com>) and Mrs. Weinman (Naomi.Weinman(a)qc.cuny.edu<mailto:Naomi.Weinman@qc.cuny.edu>), as text in the e-mail (NOT as an attachment to the e-mail) by March 31, 2020. THEY SHOULD ALSO BE HONEST, SO WE KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY PROBLEMS. PLEASE DON'T JUST TELL US THINGS YOU THINK WE WANT TO HEAR. THE ONLY REASON FOR THESE JOURNALS IS TO GET REAL HONEST FEEDBACK FROM YOU SO THAT WE CAN BE OF HELP, EVEN IF IT MEANS ADJUSTING THE PROGRAM IN SOME WAY.
Journal Assignment: The Spring 2020 semester is unlike any we have experienced before! We are interested in getting your feedback on several issues and, more importantly, knowing how you are doing. Please respond to the following in as detailed and honest a manner as possible.
1. What is your name? How are you and your family? How are you handling the changes in your life caused by the coronavirus pandemic?
2. Describe your experiences this semester thus far. Include a BRIEF description of the courses you are taking and your feelings about those courses (both TIME 2000 and non-TIME 2000 courses).
3. How is your life outside of school? (e.g., Are you working, or were you working until the coronavirus restrictions were enacted? If so, where and how many hours? Is it interfering with your school life? Are you able to have a social life? ) HOW IS LIFE AT HOME?
4. Describe any other thoughts and feelings you would like to share about the TIME 2000 program that you did not mention above. What things would you like us to be sure to do in future semesters? Please let us know any questions you may have.
5. Describe any other thoughts and feelings you would like to share about yourself that you did not mention above. What is going on in your life right now that you'd like us to know about?
Be safe and stay well!

Dear TIME 2000 Students,
Given all the changes in your lives, I wanted to check in to see how you are doing. During this unusual time, it is important to stay connected with friends, colleagues - students and teachers, and, of course, family. I love reading your journals but that is only one way to stay connected.
CUNY has created a web page that is extremely useful. In addition to listing specific date extensions for CUNY and QC deadlines, it includes a variety of tips, resources and tools. Be sure to scroll through the entire page. It is an excellent resource.
Check out the new CUNY Continuity for Students webpage which features resources, tools and tips to help you transition to distance learning for the rest of the Spring 2020 semester.<http://maestro.cuny.edu/trk/click?ref=zqtbwp23f_2-1uc942a-0-1d84x37442x0RHw…>
Other suggestions for staying connected come from an email I received from 1800Flowers. They make a lot of sense so I am sharing them with you.
Develop A Plan for Staying in Touch:
Jot down a list of people - even just three, four, or five - under the following headings: friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors. Develop a contact plan for the days and weeks ahead. It could be an aunt who lives alone, an older neighbor, or neighboring couple. Some you may want to contact every day or even every week. These need not be long conversations. Just reaching out is often enough.
Make Use of New Technologies:
Use the amazing new communication technologies available today - Zoom, FaceTime, Skype, Google Hangouts, etc. to create regular group conversations with your family or a specific group of friends. If you have folks in your circle who have never embraced platforms like these, do them a favor; call them and walk them through setting up. It will change their lives.
Give Yourself a Break:
Start a virtual book club over Skype or Zoom. Plan to watch the same comedy on Netflix with a friend. These moments of human contact - even if they're virtual - are even more important in times like these. Seeing a familiar face is comforting, even if it is on a device screen.
Staying connected with others is one of the best things we can do for our well-being during these anxious times. As Jim says, "At the end of this period - and it will eventually end - you will emerge with more, deeper, and better relationships."
Let's all stay connected and stay healthy!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Weinman
Naomi Weinman

Dear TIME 2000 Students,
I hope you and your family members are well and staying healthy. Dr. Artzt and I miss you terribly and cannot wait for things to return to normal and to see your bright faces, again. Your professors are working to convert your courses to online learning as on-campus events have been suspended. Please continue to check for emails from us as the semester continues for TIME 2000 updates. Although the March seminar is cancelled, we would still love to hear from you by way of a journal assignment.
