Mrs. Weinman
Dear Naomi,
I wanted to bring the following program, appropriate for preservice teachers or for students contemplating a career in math education, to your attention:
Math Progressions
Are you considering becoming a math educator or getting more involved in math outreach? MoMath is now offering a special opportunity to participate in an eight-week professional development program, Math Progressions, this summer. Discuss classroom best practices and learn about pedagogical topics such as fixed versus growth mindsets, setting expectations, handling difficult situations, and increasing student engagement. Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to practice your skills in a group setting using creative math sessions focused on cryptography, geometry, graph theory, probability, and topology. Classes will meet Friday mornings from July 19 through September 6, from 8:00 am to 9:30 am; the program registration fee is $500. To apply, please email the following three items to progressions(a)momath.org<mailto:progressions@momath.org>: a cover letter; a current résumé, including grade point averages; and a 150- to 500-word statement describing your views on mathematics or a life experience you have had related to mathematics. Accepted applicants will be notified within 48 hours. Tuition discounts may be available for those with demonstrated financial need.
Although the first class has already run, we might be able to run a make-up session; alternatively, we plan to repeat the course in the fall. Please don’t hesitate to share this information with your students or to let me know if you have additional questions.
Regards,
Cindy
