[Time2000_t19 0154] FW: Math On the Border Information and Training Session
Seeking JRMF Facilitators! The Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival (JRMF) seeks facilitators for mathematical activities with immigrant children ages 5 to 17 who are separated from their parents. The candidates should have a working knowledge of high school mathematics and be comfortable working with children who are not fluent in English. A knowledge of Spanish is desirable but not required. Hours are generally 11:30 to 1:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays and occasionally on Fridays. The sessions occur in the financial district. Days are flexible, and consistency of attendance not necessary. An hour of training is required to begin. At least one additional two-hour session are requested over the semester to expand candidates’ problem portfolios. JRMF supports locally organized events that inspire K through 12 students to think critically and to explore the richness and beauty of mathematics through collaborative, creative problem-solving. Our Festivals engage many types of students, including those who don’t typically enjoy competition or working under time pressure. Interested candidates should sign-up on the form linked below and attend the training session on October 31st at 12:15 at Queens College. The location will be sent to you.
