Dear TIME 2000 Students, Happy Pi Day! I hope you are weathering the storm well and staying safe and warm. It was disappointing to cancel today's seminar. Fortunately, the speakers will join us in the fall at the November seminar. There are many important changes announced in the agenda prepared for the seminar so it is attached and also pasted below for your convenience. Please read the entire agenda and let me know if you have any questions. Be sure to note the instructions for LIMACON this Friday, the changes regarding the April seminar, the certification change, the pre-registration deadline, and several important upcoming dates. Welcome to the Spring 2017 semester! 1) HAPPY PI DAY! 2) TIME 2000 seniors are now student teaching! 3) LIMAÇON this Friday! Volunteer to present what you learned at the next seminar! 4) Certification exam update: The ALST is no longer required for certification! 5) Portfolios: Tara Wachter (T-1) is available to answer your questions at etbff@aol.com. As the year winds down, remember to set aside items you think will be useful in your portfolio. Sample portfolios are also available for viewing in the TIME 2000 office. Portfolio guidelines are available on SharePoint. There will be a brief portfolio review at the April seminar, as well. Due date: Wednesday, June 7, 2017, by 12:00 noon; Mentors may submit portfolios on Thursday, June 8, by 9:30am. B. Announcements 1) April Seminar CHANGES! Please note that the next seminar date and location have been changed to April 4, 2017, in the Flex Space in the SUMMIT. Vouchers will be distributed but you will not be able to use them until after the seminar so you might want to eat before the seminar. Please bring your portfolio to the seminar if you received a grade of B or higher. 2) Registration: Pre-registration will take place on March 27. The Fall 2017 schedule has been posted on SharePoint. Follow instructions with the link to a Google Form that has been sent via email. Deadline to request classes is this Sunday. 3) LIMAÇON: At the April seminar, TIME 2000 students will give brief presentations about what they learned at LIMAÇON. E-mail Mrs. Weinman after the conference to volunteer to give a presentation. When you attend a workshop that you really like, try to get an extra copy of the handout(s) to use if you make a presentation. Always get the name and contact information of the presenter. If the presentation is really great and you think it would be appropriate for a TIME 2000 seminar or TIME 2000 conference workshop, please email the name and email address of the presenter to Mrs. Weinman. 4) LIMACON BUS instructions: Meet at the side gate at Melbourne & 150th St. at 7am as per the emailed instructions. If you signed up for the bus and no longer need a seat, please email time2000.officeassistant@gmail.com<mailto:time2000.officeassistant@gmail.com> immediately so we do not delay the bus by waiting for you. 5) Freshman Orientation: Thursday, June 8, 9:30am-2pm, including lunch. Please indicate on the attendance sheet if you would like to serve as a mentor. Email Mrs. Weinman if you have suggestions to improve the mentor program. 6) Attendance sheet: Indicate any changes in contact information; complete all columns. 7) Future seminar dates: April 4, May 10 (evening graduation celebration; replaces morning seminar). Reunion: Wednesday, June 7. Nominations! C. Journal Assignment The following assignment is required for all juniors (but all students are more than welcome to respond). Journals should be submitted via e-mail to both Dr. Artzt (qcartzt@gmail.com) and Mrs. Weinman (Naomi.Weinman@qc.cuny.edu), as text in the e-mail (NOT as an attachment to the e-mail) by March 21, 2017. Journal Assignment: The Spring 2017 semester is now underway. We are interested in getting your feedback on several issues. Please respond to the following in as detailed and honest a manner as possible. 1. What is your name? 2. Describe your experiences this semester thus far. Include a BRIEF description of the courses you are taking and your feelings about those courses (both TIME 2000 and non-TIME 2000 courses). 3. How is your life outside of school? (e.g., Are you working? If so, where and how many hours? Is it interfering with your school life? Are you able to have a social life? ) 4.
