The Child Center of NY's Parsons Community School is seeking passionate, highly-motivated, eager to learn Group Leaders and Activity Specialists to enthusiastically and actively supervise, engage and develop youth participants in grades ranging from 4-9. Candidates with experience, talent and passion teaching specific activities or theme-based clubs including: literacy, arts, science, technology, engineering, math, cooking, drama, dance, youth council, leadership, service-learning or sports are encouraged to apply and highlight those talents and experience. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Actively monitor and engage participants during all program activities, including pick-up, snack, , transitions, field trips, clubs, activities, and dismissal. • Create Project-Based Learning curricula with lesson plans for each group session. Utilize curricula and lesson plans to facilitate purposeful and engaging activities and on-going theme-based projects catered to the age, stage and interests of participants as well as the needs of the school community. • Assist participants with literacy; encourage academic effort and efficacy. • Serve as a positive role model for participants. • Collaborate with co-workers and program supervisors around effective program operations; uphold all safety and emergency standards and procedures. • Demonstrate professional behavior at all times. • Actively participate in training and professional development to continuously increase knowledge, principles and practices of child and youth development and actively use this knowledge to achieve the goals of the program. • Promote responsible and healthy decision-making among all participants. • Develop leadership skills, team-building and self-advocacy among all participants. • Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces diversity. • Foster academic and non-academic skills and broaden participant horizons. • Promote responsible and healthy decision-making among all participants. • Maintain appropriate and professional boundaries with participants at all times. • Maintain accurate daily attendance records for all assigned activities. Required Skills/Experience: • One year After-school work experience, one full summer camp work experience, or two years related experience. • Interest and experience in youth development and academic enrichment. • A genuine enthusiasm for developing professional skills through training opportunities, observation, coaching, and feedback. • Availability between 1:45pm-9:00pm.; 12-27 hours per week Monday-Friday, or Saturdays between 9:45am-5:00pm • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a broad range of people including school staff, parents, co-workers and supervisors. • Ability to meet School Age Child Care (SACC) requirements and obtain clearances including: background checks, fingerprinting by NYC Dept of Health, fingerprinting by NYC Dept of Ed, annual medical clearance and annual TB test documentation. • Ability to effectively manage time and to demonstrate strong organizational skills. • Ability to obtain and submit educational documentation as well as three letters of reference. Dear TIME 2000 Friends and Family, MATHCOUNTS Manhattan is in need of volunteers for the math competition on Feb. 6, 2016. You may have participated in MATHCOUNTS when you were in middle school; you might want to learn about it for your future students. A simple breakfast and lunch will be provided and you will receive a MATHCOUNTS Manhattan t-shirt. Most volunteers will be needed to help score contest rounds using an answer key from around 9:30am to 12:30pm, though we'll also need some help with registration, student lunch, trophy set up, and other tasks throughout the day. After scoring lunch, you are welcome to stay for the keynote speaker. The competition will be held on Saturday, February 6th at Stuyvesant High School (345 Chambers Street) with most volunteers arriving at 9:15 AM. If you have not let me know if you can make it, please respond back to this message so I can get an accurate list. I am attaching the detailed volunteer info sheet for 2016 for your reference. One of our participating schools (Park East Day School, located in the E 60s) is unable to participate at the Saturday competition due to religious observances. I am looking for one person who is available during the day on Tuesday, February 2nd to administer the contest rounds to them at their school. If you are interested, please let me know! A proctoring script and all materials will be provided; you will not be required to score the tests. I will also be setting up along with a few coaches in the late afternoon/early evening at Stuyvesant on Friday, February 5th (sorting t-shirts by school, unboxing trophies, etc.). A list of names must be provided to security at World Wide Plaza by the end of business, today. Sincerely, Naomi Weinman SEYS/TIME 2000 Residential Counselor/Teaching Assistant (mathematics summer program for talented, underserved youth) This summer, change the lives of talented 7th-grade students from underserved backgrounds. Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics (BEAM), a project of the Art of Problem Solving Foundation, is seeking undergraduate students or recent graduates to be counselors and teaching assistants for a summer program that gives everyone a chance to excel in mathematics. The program will take place in summer 2016 at a college campus about two hours from New York City. Counselors will live with the students in the campus dorms. You'll create a vibrant social experience for kids who are discovering for the first time that there are other people who like doing mathematics, you'll also be a TA for classes on topics such as number theory, combinatorics, graph theory, and problem solving, and you'll be a role model and guide for students who are just beginning to set their educational path. Counselors must be strong mathematically, be reliable and take initiative, and must be charismatic and able to help the kids have fun. All counselors must be at least 18 years old by July 10, 2016.
