Greetings, See below for an announcement about a grant competition for collaboration grants in math and the physical sciences from the Simons Foundation. The deadline to apply is January 28, 2016. Best! Eva Eva M. Fernández Acting Assistant Provost Queens College, City University of New York http://efernandez.qwriting.qc.cuny.edu<http://efernandez.qwriting.qc.cuny.edu/> From: Center for Teaching and Learning [mailto:CTL@LISTSERV.CUNY.EDU] On Behalf Of Lucinda Zoe Sent: Monday, November 2, 2015 5:32 PM To: CTL@LISTSERV.CUNY.EDU Subject: Collaboration Grants for Mathematicians Dear Colleagues, I ran across this today, and I thought you might want to share it with some of your colleagues who might be interested or know those who might be qualified to apply. Not a huge amount, but it does cover travel and research expenses- for five years! The program seeks to support active researchers in the US. Please share and disseminate to faculty as you think appropriate. -- Lucinda The Simons Foundation's Mathematics and Physical Sciences division invites applications for Collaboration Grants for Mathematicians to stimulate collaboration in the field primarily through the funding of travel and related expenditures. Rationale: The goal of the program is to support the 'mathematical marketplace' by substantially increasing collaborative contacts between mathematicians. The foundation will make a large number of collaboration grants to accomplished, active researchers in the United States who do not otherwise have access to funding that supports travel and visitors. Basis for Awards: Awards will be based on the quality of the applicant's previous research, as outlined in the "Statement of Recent Work" application requirement below, and on the likely impact that the collaboration grant will have on future research, both for the applicant and the applicant's graduate students and/or postdoctoral fellows. Level and Duration of Funding: Each collaboration grant provides $7,000 per year for five years: $5,000 per year for collaboration, travel, and research expenses for the awardee; $1,000 per year in discretionary funds for the awardee's department; and $1,000 per year in indirect costs to the awardee's institution. The five-year grant will commence September 1, 2016, and end August 31, 2021.
