In this workshop, you’ll learn how to effectively use OneSearch: keyword selection and applying search filters. You’ll also learn how to assess the quality and credibility of the sources you discover. Joan Xu This workshop will introduce the basics of using R and RStudio to analyze data for research. No prior programming experience is required; having knowledge and experience with another statistical software package (such as SPSS or SAS) will be helpful. Topics include R packages and syntax; RStudio Interface; Data importing, exploring, analysis, and saving. By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to find and use open syllabi, textbooks, lesson plans, and more. Learn about the library's OER program, which offers a $500 honorarium for those that commit to teaching a section using those materials in Summer or Fall 2025. This workshop covers privacy-focused alternatives to common online services, how to find and adjust hidden privacy settings, and tools like VPNs and ad blockers. Explore the risks of surveillance capitalism and gain control over your online data. You’ll also learn how to schedule free passes to use research libraries at Columbia, NYU, and NYPL for research in the sciences, arts, and humanities.
