Dear Colleagues,
Welcome back to campus. I trust you have had a pleasant start to the Spring 2023 semester!
My name is Dr. Bedward, and I am the new Scholarship Advisor in the Office of Honors and Scholarships. As a former student at QC, I benefited greatly from the remarkable work done in this office over the years. I am thrilled for the opportunity to support the QC community in this role.
While I am a historian of the Middle East by training (I earned my doctorate from Rutgers University), I have spent a great deal of my academic career working with my colleagues, and my students, to support them in their successful application for graduate school, and major national awards.
I write to ask for your support in publicizing and recruiting students for the many prestigious scholarships with which we work. The QC student community is filled with exceptional students.
As Faculty, you are aware of the great equalizing capacity of scholarship programs -- not least of which because these opportunities provide students with valuable work experience to be competitive on the job market.
To that end, our goal is to increase student applications to prestigious awards such as the Jeannette K Watson Fellowship, Goldwater, Truman, Beinecke, Gilman, Boren, Fulbright and many others.
How can you help?
Boost the attendance of our information sessions by forwarding emails to your students
Sending the names of students who may be well suited to a particular opportunity
Serve on scholarship review committee reviews
Write letters of recommendation
Participate in workshops/information sessions in your area of expertise
Upcoming Event(s):
Our next event will be an information session for the Fulbright US Student Program, which funds students who will have a bachelors in hand by the start of the fellowship program, but do not yet hold a PhD. This opportunity would be great for current seniors or recent graduates.
