The Queens College Psychological Center (QCPC) is offering a six-session group skills-building workshop every other Tuesday from 5:15 to 6:15 pm starting February 22. This workshop is for CUNY faculty. Capacity is limited, so register as soon as you can! ***Register here: https://forms.office.com/r/frES7FhZmL Organizational Skills Training for Adults (OSTA) seeks to teach a variety of empirically supported strategies to help working professionals better manage their daily responsibilities. The group will provide practical training in areas such as time management, planning, decluttering, and workspace optimization. Through instruction in these critical competencies, the group will aim to empower participants to lead more productive and efficient lives. Below is an outline of all six sessions: ***Session 1: Introduction to Organization and Planning (2/22) • Meet and greet. • Discuss motivations for change. • Outline group goals/session structure. • Introduce calendar and task list systems. ***Session 2: Organizational Systems and Managing Multiple Tasks (3/8) • Review calendar/task list assignments. • Provide instruction in prioritization skills (e.g. ABC method). • Problem-solve regarding any anticipated difficulties using these skills. ***Session 3: Managing Overwhelming Tasks and Overcoming Procrastination (3/22) • Review ABC priority practice. • Teach participants how to break a large task down into small, manageable steps. • Teach participants to anticipate the negative consequences of procrastination. • Introduce techniques for trying to resolve procrastination problems. ***Session 4: Focus and Distractions (4/12) • Teach participants to gauge their own attention span. • Teach participants to implement the distractibility delay. ***Session 5: Intro to the Cognitive Model/Adaptive Thinking (4/26) • Review distractibility delay. • Discuss automatic thinking and the relationship of thoughts to behaviors and feelings. • Explain how to identify negative thoughts and formulate a rational response. • Introduce thought records. ***Session 6: Review and Feedback (5/10) • Review participant thought records. • General debriefing/Q&A • Provide additional resources.
